Ali Alaspli, also known as Ali Omar, is a Libyan human rights defender and researcher. He began his work in eastern Libya from the earliest days of the 2011 uprising, documenting abuses and advocating for victims as the country's institutions collapsed and armed conflict spread.
In March 2016, he was abducted and detained for 120 days in Qarnada prison for publicly criticising armed groups. Released in July 2016, he left Libya to Tunisia and later, in 2019, relocated to the United Kingdom where he continues his work in exile.
In 2019, he founded Libya Crimes Watch (LCW), a leading organisation specialised in monitoring, documenting, and advocating for accountability and justice for victims of human rights violations in Libya. In December 2024, he briefed the UN Security Council on the human rights situation in Libya.
